Expertise in Food safety, Exposure Assessment, Chemical Risk Assessment, and Environmental Chemistry. Further specific expertise in applied bioanalytical chemistry, with emphasis on persistent organic pollutants (POPs) in food and environmental samples. Metabolism of POPs and effects on organisms, sources and distribution of POPs. Further, expertise in inorganic trace analyses in biota. Experience in microplastic, environmental distribution, intake and impact. Extensive experience in bioeconomy, sustainable development and policy making.

PhD. in Biochemistry from Brandeis University, USA. Dr. Kristjansson is semi-retired and working as private consultant on research, development and IP matters for three companies, IceHerbs (iceherbs.is), ThorIce (thorice.is) and Taramar (taramar.is). He has over 35 years professional experience, e.g. as Research Scientist at University of Iceland; Head of the Biotechnology Department, Technological Institute of Iceland; Associate Professor of Microbiology and Research Professor in Biotechnology at the University of Iceland. He has served on several national and international boards and committees, including the Icelandic National Research Council and the EC Regulatory Committee of Biotechnology, Chairman of the Nordic Top-level Research Initiative in Bioenergy.

Einar is the CEO of Audna/TTO Iceland. Einar has a PhD in Molecular Genetics and an MBA in Innovation & Business creation from the Technical University in Munich, Germany. Einar has three decades of international experience in Life Sciences, Biotechnology and the Biomedical industry, and has also worked as an entrepreneur with Innovation Management, Strategy and Business Development. Before joining TTO Iceland Einar was the Innovation Manager at the University of Iceland (UoI) and is a past Board member of The Science Park of UoI and several spin-offs. Einar is an entrepreneur and the co-founder and past manager at the biotech company Orf Genetics.
